Thank you, Phase2!
As I write this blog post, I am completing my last week at Phase2 Technology. In a week I will be joining NPR as a Director, Engineering in Digital Media.
Last three and a half years with Phase2 have been one of the most interesting and fulfilling periods of my professional life. During this period I was given an opportunity to be part of truly amazing achievements: migrating wfp.org to Drupal in under a month, game-changing launch of whitehouse.gov on Drupal, architecting and developing World Bank's RESTful Open API and building kick-ass Drupal distributions, to name just a few. I got a chance to work with some of the friendliest and brightest people at Phase2, and be part of the amazing Drupal community.
I have used and contributed-to open-source software for most of my professional life; but of all open-source communities Drupal has been hands-down the most friendly, innovative and enjoyable one.
I first got introduced to Drupal about five years ago, thanks to my friend Pierre Guillaume Wielezynski. We then proceeded to bring Drupal to the World Bank and once that turf was "conquered" I joined Phase2 to spread Drupal love even further. During this period I met many members of the Drupal community and at every step I felt the kind of exceptional camaraderie that you only see in open-source. It is to the Drupal community that I feel I owe to write this blog post and explain what my departure means to the Drupal work I have been doing at Phase2.
At Phase2 I managed the products department and was in charge of the great Drupal distributions that Phase2 is known for: OpenPublish, OpenPublic, Tattler App and more recently: OpenAtrium and Managing News, acquired from Development Seed. In many ways, these distributions have shaped how we think of Drupal and have pushed Drupal to further frontiers. Phase2 has invested a lot of time and resources in pushing the limits on distributions and has in many ways validated the business model for others to follow.
Just a month ago, at DrupalCon Chicago, we introduced very first Drupal Apps and an apps distribution model in OpenPublic. Since then we have had many interesting discussions with the leading Drupal firms that share our vision. I believe that with their help, Phase2 will reinvent how business is done in Drupal and cement Drupal's position as the most innovative CMS in the market. In another news, recently launched OpenPublic has also attracted enormous attention around the world and I am confident that it will be of tremendous help in Drupal's pursuit to bring open-source to governments.
OpenPublish also continues to be adopted by some of the most respected and largest media organizations, worldwide. OpenAtrium is an iconic Drupal distributions that needs no introduction to most people.
But it is not just about the software, it is more about people. People in the Drupal community who develop great modules and encourage us to work on open-source every day; people at Phase2 who do their work with great professionalism and passion. These are the people who, I am sure, will continue to work on things we have started and I have no doubt -- will greatly succeed. We have had a lot of discussions about the future of products at Phase2. There are bigger, bolder and greater things in the pipeline, that I look forward for Phase2 to soon announce. On my end, I will try to keep maintaining the long list of Drupal modules I have amassed.
In the end, I want to finish this blog post on a personal note.
My office at Phase2 is across from the office of our COO, Scott Hockett. Often we were the last two people working in the office, Scott always leaving after me, so we got this tradition of me stopping by his office before leaving and wishing him a good night. Today I will wish Scott good night for the last time, but Phase2 will always remain in my heart as the wonderful family that it has been to me for the past three years.
Thank you for everything, Phase2, I was very lucky to have been part of this great company!
