OpenPublic’s Going Beta at DrupalCon

Jeff:

Based on the fact that our newest product, OpenPublic, is all about community -- open-source, data transparency, government publishing, citizen engagement -- we couldn’t think of a better forum to introduce it formally than at DrupalCon 2011.

So we hope you were in Chicago with us today when I took the stage with New York State Senate’s Andrew Hoppin to publicly announce the beta release of OpenPublic, the Drupal distribution specifically for government that is:

  • Compliant - It meets stringent standards of security and privacy.
  • Flexible - It enables multi-site management and multi-user growth.
  • Integrated - It securely shares data with legacy systems when needed.
  • Intuitive - It promotes stress-free publishing for content managers.
  • Engaging - It encourages public audiences to learn and interact.

During the session, we went through the platform’s features in detail. In case you missed the talk, be sure to view the video on OpenPublicApp.com where you can expect to see the administrator interface, which enables content managers to do things like enable feedback loops. And you’ll see how that back-end functionality translates to better experiences for constituents on the front-end, where they can engage with integrated social media tools and see data visualized in new ways that promote understanding.

We also made a big announcement regarding installable apps and we hope that you will be on the lookout for a live demo tomorrow with Frank at Building Drupal Platforms session. If you are interested in learning more about the technical and security aspects of OpenPublic, DrupalCon Chicago attendees can check out how we’ve built the distribution to enable the open-source community to build, share, and further make use of government data by stopping by the Phase2 booth and receiving a demo.

We’re looking forward to hearing your feedback, and seeing your contributions over the upcoming weeks.
