Drupalcon London Day 2
The second day at Drupalcon was a great mix of session attendance, session performance and more talks with an amazing number of people who are doing interesting things with Drupal. One theme that has emerged this week is the large number of people using Drupal and the various Drupal distributions to start SaaS businesses targetted at a variety of markets. Many of these people are focused on making a site owner's first introduction to Drupal a great experience and helps balance the flexibility and power of Drupal with the overwhelming options of choice that can bring.
Continuing to make Drupal handle large scale data and traffic was another theme in sessions today. After one session, I was involved in a conversation with someone who had tackled an issue where metadata about fields and entities had become large enough to cause issues to handle at both the caching and network level between the cache and web host. It's always interesting to hear about what issues people face as they continue to push the limits of what can be done with Drupal.
The session on the Relation module was great introduction to a module which is expanding the capability of Drupal to build complex applications without resorting to code. It takes the idea of user and node references to the next level by generalizing what can be put on each side of the relationship and expanding the types of relationships that can be defined. It's definitely a module I'll be keeping an eye on.
