Design for OpenPublicapp.com Evokes Revolutionary Spirit

Laura:

Openpublicapp.com launched today. In creating the design for the site, we wanted the brand to convey two things:

  1. OpenPublic is part of a revolutionary Open Source movement to free the people from cumbersome, proprietary Content Management Systems. The result of the movement will be better and more efficient websites.
  2. OpenPublic is a community effort and we are seeking people to contribute toward making the product as best as it can be.

To accomplish this goal, I tried to create a design that evoked the mood of the American revolutionary era. The color palette is one you might find in the historical architecture section of a paint store. Flourishes and patterns in the design bring to mind an official document or certificate from the colonial era. That and the fact that the site is a one-pager stress a manifesto-like appearance. Other parts of the design also reinforce this - for example, the prominent tagline: "By the People, for the People."

Hopefully, the design will inspire people to sign up and take part in this extraordinary movement!
