Calais Releases R3 Preview

Calais released a technology preview of Calais 3.0 for testing and feedback today that we are eager to play with. It includes a mix of interesting new things for us.

According to Tom Tague’s blog, this release improves upon the ever increasing number of new entities and events supported by Calais including sports leagues and movie releases; computer programming languages and operating systems, as well as medical treatments.

We were most interested in new document level functionality that allows for categorization for standard news categories and something called “exhaustive extraction” that provides a way to identify and map relationships in a document that are keyed off of an entity of a known type.

The release also provides bug fixes, performance improvements and other new interfaces such as a new REST interface for developers.
