Apture is another way to add a semantic web experience with a rich media appeal

We have been messing around with a new technology lately called Apture that provides a very cool way for content publishers to contextually link terms in their content to related rich media items in a clever way. With just one line of code placed on the page, publishers and bloggers can quickly and easily turn flat pages of text into a compelling multimedia experience by providing pop up supplemental references.

Apture basically gives content creators (usually bloggers or online publishers) the power to find and incorporate relevant multimedia items directly into their pages. The service easily tees up content from popular sources such as wikipedia, Flickr, YouTube and other multi-media sources so you can add some spice to the page and help add depth and color to your references rather than boring links to other web pages.

Readers can then access these items without ever leaving the page by opening very cool and non-intrusive popup bubbles upon rollover. It sort of reminds me of a version of MTV’s
“Pop up Video” for your web page.
